A Gold Coin from the Eastern Roman Period Was Found in Karaburun, Izmir

The underwater discovery of an amateur diver off the coast of Karaburun district of Izmir excited history buffs. As a result of the examinations, it was determined that the gold coin found belonged to the period of Eastern Roman Emperor John I Tzimiskes.

The artifact in question, which has high historical value, was delivered to the Izmir Archeology Museum in order to initiate the necessary conservation and examination processes. Experts continue to investigate the find’s connection with other archaeological data in the region.
