The popular messaging app WhatsApp has started blocking access to the app for users whose phone’s operating system is out of date. Even if the application is up-to-date with the new arrangement, when the software version of the device is insufficient, users encounter a warning screen that cannot be turned off and are directed directly to the software update section of the device.
The restriction, which covers both iOS and Android platforms, was put in place to prevent vulnerabilities in legacy operating systems from putting user data at risk. Although the company has not yet made an official statement on which minimum version will be mandatory, it seems that security protocols have been tightened.
